Asbestos is a highly heat-resistant fibrous silicate mineral that can be woven into fabrics and is used in brake linings and in fire-resistant and insulating materials. There are many qualified inspectors for all manner of pre-purchase inspections, we recommend you use a qualified professional. However, it is important to note that Asbestos products are found in many houses built or renovated before the mid-1980s.

Never. Without a qualified professional involved in order to make some form of assessment regarding risk, it is unsafe and unwise to attempt to perform any kind of home maintenance involving the handling or movement of Asbestos. This is not a “Do It Yourself” job.

The disposal of asbestos must legally be facilitated by authorised and/or licenced transfer stations and facilities. It is unlawful and unethical for safety reasons to bury, destroy or otherwise dispose of Asbestos sheeting and materials.

• Specialised equipment is required to remove Asbestos safely.
